So you’re new to your home based business and you’re excited. But there is still that little voice in the back of your mind wondering if you can really do this. Maybe you believe in your business but you’re just having a bit of a hard time believing in yourself. Confidence is extremely important for anyone who owns their own business. There isn’t a lot of room for self doubt when you’re trying to build something special. So if you’re not especially confident with talking to prospects that can be a problem. Luckily there is a cure that works for everyone. If you want to get really stinking good at something all you have to do is do it a LOT!

This goes against what we want to do. Because normally if something isn’t easy or fun or we feel weird about it we try to ignore it. However, if you’re in a business that requires you to talk to prospects either in person or on the phone then ignoring the problem won’t make it any better. Because if you’re not talking to enough people you’re not going to sign up anybody and if you don’t sign up anybody you’re not going to make any money and then really what’s the point.

So you HAVE to do it even if it feels weird at first.

When I first started talking to prospects on the phone I absolutely hated it. I got sweaty and nervous and I just wanted to give up and go home. Luckily I was able to get past my lack of confidence by picking up the phone and dialing as many people as I could in one day. I got a lot of answering machines, a lot of people who blew me off, a couple of rude people and one or two people who were really interested.

The more and more I talked to people the more I realized that it really didn’t matter about the rude people. The only people I was looking for were the people who wanted what I was offering and if I had to go through hundreds of phone calls to find them I would do that. As I made call after call I started to get more and more confident and eventually talking to people on the phone became easy and even fun, yes, fun!

So if you’re suffering from a lack of confidence just start doing what you’re afraid of. It will be hard at first but it’s the only way to really get past your fears and start making money in your business.
