Misconceptions exist about the know-how and what is the best way to go about finding a good job. The reason why some people fail to land a job is not because they are lazy and unmotivated; it is just that they do not have the necessary tools to help them find a job in the best and most effective way.

Finding a job

When you are applying for a job no matter what kind of job you are looking for, you will need to know where to look first. Many people think the best way to find a job is to look for it in the newspaper or simply go from company to company asking for a job. While these methods work, networking is also considered to be an effective way of finding a job. In addition, private employment agencies and temp agencies can also be very helpful tools in your job search. Many temp agencies hire workers to fill urgent temp jobs such as sales jobs and part time jobs.

Building your skill

Building your job skills through resumes, cover letters, or a career portfolio is a tool you can develop in order to give the employer a complete picture of who you are. This includes your education, job experiences, your accomplishments and your sets of skills. No serious job hunter should be without a resume. You can also use your career portfolio during job interviews to illustrate the depth of your skills and experience.

Going to an Interview

If the employer is impressed in what they see in your portfolio, you may be invited to an interview. Obtaining an interview is the biggest step in your search for the right job. An interview determines whether you are best fitted for the requirement of the position in the employer’s perspective.

Preparing before you go to an interview always pays off. Make sure you have done some research about the company. Doing research before an interview will improve your chances of getting an offer.

Here are some common sense rules that you should follow:

1. Make sure you know where the interview will be held and who you will be speaking with.
2. Be on time.
3. Dressing smartly will always make a good impression.
4. Be straightforward and honest.
5. Once the interview is over, ask at least one question about the job itself.
